Developing Choreography Further - Lesson 8
Developing choreography further- Lesson 8
In today's lesson as a whole year group, we structured out a
plan of goals to achieve up until our assessment date. The weekend before this
lesson we spent our weekend choreographing new motifs and getting at least 5
minutes of choreography complete. This is shown in the link below:
As a group we worked out what our two pieces of music were
expressing, our first piece -Everything must change being set on conformity, and
our second piece- Clouds set on individuality. We choose these ideas as it
gives a definite aim for each half of the piece and allows us to work on the
episodic structure for each section. Our choreographic intention is to
highlight conformity within society using a lot of unison sections as well as
enhancing individuality by adapting motifs and creating new motifs with a
different dynamic.
During this week we finished choreographing a draft to the first piece of music with a set structure by the end of this work as group we fixed and completed the whole first piece with clean transitions and timing. The one transition is from the walking clump to Megan and Daisy motif which we manage to complete. The one section which Megan and Daisy choreographed was created using the chance method as shown in the picture below. Also, during this section we wanted to link back to Asch Experiment by having a movement which will highlight this, we did this by having a standing up idea merged into the section. This was an idea that came from https://youtu.be/o8BkzvP19v4 .
The link below shows this chance method section in the second part of the video along with the 4x6 section.
The picture above explains the chance method.
We then did a duet section which was the end of our first piece of music blending to the second - this was choreographed by using the translation method. Below is a clip of this section:

You have a well presented blog with lots of examples that document your progress, well done. Can you expand on the idea inspired by the Asch Experiment? How does the standing up idea relate to this experiment?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. The standing up idea relates to this experiment as it coincides with the idea of conformity and how when one person does something in a routine other people catch on this and think it is set and conform. Which is exactly what we as a group are aiming to portray in this section.
DeleteThis is another great blog with lots of information and documentation. You mentioned that you finished some work at the weekend, does this mean you were choreographing outside of the studio? If so how did you find this? Was it practical? Or was it a challenge?
ReplyDeleteWe are choreographing outside the studio this is to be able to get motifs finished and develop more ideas for our piece. We have found this quite challenging as not everyone is in the same household and we are split into two, so on this basis it wasn't very practical and COVID didn't help as we weren't allowed to mix households. However, we made it work and were able to get things done quickly.
DeleteI can see from this blog that your group were really productive this week and used your time well by choreographing separately at the weekend. Are you pleased with the content that you created this week or is there anything you would still like to change?
