Expanding and Developing a motif- Lesson 6

Expanding and Developing a motif- Lesson 6 In the start of this lesson as group we begin to discuss music and how we would find the right piece and something which would suit the stimulus of our piece. Our two starting points for this was to start looking at film soundtracks and neo classical pieces of music from other choreography which would then start a brainstorming point as to what style of music we would be looking to have. We also looked at how much material we roughly had which was 1-minute 20s not including the ending which would make the material count 3 minutes. This gave us an idea of how we would then plan our time to allow us to create choreography and finish by the assessment. For the rest of the lesson me, Devanshi, Caitlyn and Mhairi started a new motif as our household due to Megan and Daisy being in self isolation. We developed a motif based on the choreography of ‘Solo Echo’ by Crystal Pite. In partners we came up with two different motifs linking to the i...

Generating Choreography Ideas - Lesson 4 & 5

Generating Choreography Ideas- Lesson 4 and 5 The image above shows our geometric shape in preperation to start that section. In lesson 4, as a group we were discussing our final stimulus along with sharing our idea with the other two groups and they shared theirs. After, discussing all our ideas we then went onto the task of developing three motifs using three different words that link to our stimulus. Abi and Megan had chosen the word connection and created a few counts of eight based on this word, this is shown below: https://youtu.be/4F-Z22VhzEw   Mhairi and Devanshi had chosen the word uncertainty and made a small motif based on this word, the clip is shown below:   https://youtu.be/rODm27jD6Yo Caitlyn and Daisy created movement linking to their chosen word influence, they also adapted their motif from their original, this is shown below: https://youtu.be/DEyt30wNnMw   https://youtu.be/kbkIGG8DMZE We all then came together and taught the thre...

Chosen Stimulus

Chosen Stimulus In this blog I’m going to share the journey we went on as a group to find our chosen Stimulus, along with all our ideas and background findings. The first stage of finding our stimulus was each person in our group had a week to brainstorm ideas of what they thought would be interesting to chose as a stimulus, after the week we all came together and had a discussion on all the ideas and came up with one set idea that we would base our choreography on. Following the discussion, we then had three strong themes that we decided to link together to create the main idea. The three ideas we started with was with the photo shown below by the artist Lena Macka that Daisy had found, where we interpreted the idea of connection from the string they are holding above their heads and we liked the fact it linked within a group. Ref ( Isabelle, 2019)         This idea then led to our second which was social experiments specifically lookin...

Translation Method - Lesson 3

Translation Method – Lesson 3 In todays lesson we did a task based on the childhood game Chinese whispers called the translation method. We worked in our household groups; we started the task in a line with the person at the start facing the front ad the other three facing the opposite direction. They were then given a word by Miss Evans which they had to choreograph eight counts of movement based on the word to then show the next person. Examples of some of the words given were: gentle, heavy, tick, sticky, together, inside and many more. The next person had two chances to learn the eight counts, who then showed the next with only one chance and the last person had one chance to learn the movement to then perform this to the others to see the difference between the original eight counts and the new eight counts. Each person got a different word meaning there was a total of thirty-two counts of the original movement and then we also had the new movement which was altered to how the per...

Introduction to Year 2 Choreography In our first lesson, we had five different stimuli placed around the room, below are the pictures of each stimuli. The stimuli used were art used as a political tool.
