Creative Session Expanding ideas- Lesson 7

At the start of this lesson, we came to a final decision on our music choice. This was choosing these two pieces Olafur Arnalds ‘Everything must change’ and Ezio Bosso ‘Clouds, the mind on the Wind’ to edit them together to have the perfect music for our choreography.  This idea of an episodic structure in our choreography is clearly mirrored here in our contrasting pieces of music that furthermore show a narrative element in our piece.

We then moved on to finishing the entrance of our piece and finding a way to make it work which then was able to highlight our stimulus to the audience. Once we had finalized our entrance, we then decided what we wanted to choreograph from this section, we decided to try fitting the household motif inspired by Crystal pike but only one part of this motif which we felt flowed on from the entrance. Carrying on from this section we added the Geometric shape motif which was developed from Megan and I’s motif connection, including a transition movement to help with connecting the movements together smoothly. As a group, we decided to fit these sections together with the music to see how it would work and how they would join together.

 

Following on from this we spent time working on the household motif and Daisy’s own choreography, teaching Megan Daisy’s section and adding these together to finalize this section. Spending time on ensuring the counts work together and the formation is set in place. This then led us to another idea of doing a walking clump section, we came up with ideas on how to use the idea of everyone walking then one person from the group doing a separate movement. This is linking to the idea of breaking from conformity and projecting individuality.

  1. Well done Abi, I can clearly see the process that your group took in this session and how you have developed each motif/gesture into a section of your piece. What opposing themes are the two pieces of music that you have chosen going to represent?

  2. This seemed like a very productive lesson! I like how you are starting to focus on the smaller details, like timing, as you develop your piece. What is the message you are trying to convey by having two pieces of music? Are they distinctively different? In what way?

    1. The message we are trying to portray using to pieces of music- the first beginning for conformity and the second being for individuality. They are distinctively difference as the first has more of a beat and the second is more flowing and smooth.

  3. As Louisa said above, this sounds like a very productive lesson for your group. however, could you share some information on what you mean by an episodic structure?

    1. An episodic structure is where there will be different sections and motifs linked together to create more of a flowing structure, and our group aim is to have two main sections with the two pieces of music we have chosen.
