Anylasing Feedback and creating choreography – lesson 9
In today's lesson as a group we read through our feedback
given by Miss Evans and expressed our thoughts and opinions. She made some of
the following points:
-Timing throughout piece needs more work
- Show contrasts between dynamics and expansion on movement
through whole body on some phrases
- beep section can be dragged out longer
After reviewing the learning objectives of the module as a
class, we then were given time to see how wd approach the feedback given. As a
group we thought it was best to focus on the timing and dynamics of the 1st
section to make sure this was clean before creating anymore material. In my
opinion going through the counts and dynamics of this section in more depth and
cleaning it made a difference in how we performed it and the presentation of
the movement to the audience. We then worked out how to expand movements
further so they are more involved with the whole body rather than body parts.
This was challenging as we had to see what movement was able to be developed
further with music and timing. I think being given feedback was useful to allow
us to work on the set points. The second hour was decided to concentrate on the
2nd piece and creating new motifs or adapting ones from the 1st
to make both pieces link. We did this by watching more work of Crystal Pite to
gain some inspiration. This helped as we were able to use some of her movement
as influence or a base to our motifs.
At the end of the week, we performed our pieces to the class and Miss Evans and received some feedback to analyse the next lesson and make any necessary changes. One of the main things said was to work on transitions so it doesn't make the choreography split and to clean up the ending to make the choreographic aim clear. A positive which was said was that the theme of our piece is portrayed really well and the audience are able to pick up on this.
It was fascinating to watch your group perform in class this week as you demonstrated your theme in many interesting and creative pathways. Can you comment on a particular piece you were inspired by by Crystal Pite during the last part of class? Can you also describe some movements you used as an influence and expand on what they bought to your piece?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your feedback. Crystal Pite's piece we were inspired by was 'Solo Echo' we used the influence of one section where we used the idea of touch and response. Especially the linking between how movements have effects on the dancers so cause natural reactions.
DeleteIt is good that you now have a clear plan of what you want to work on in your group and have identified the areas that will be most important for you, such as the timing. How will you expand on the beep section and what will this part of your choreography be portraying?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. We are expanding the beep section by editing it in the music the same sound effect to allow it to be continuous and expand further. This will be linking to the experiment we looked into about how when one person starts to do something other people will join in from instinct and see it as normal, highlighting the idea of conformity.
DeleteI definitely agree with the feedback given, your concept is very interesting and you have come up with unique movements that suit it well. How will you take on board the constructive criticism and apply it to improve your piece?
ReplyDeleteWe will adapt anything that needs to be and work together to apply the feedback to ensure the piece is looking the best.
DeleteWe will also spend time doing this in the studio and in our own time.
